Netanyahu's UN Speech on 'Barbarity' Ignores Israel's Own Moral Crisis

This was one of Benjamin Netanyahu's main arguments in his address at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday: Israel is fighting against the barbarians who threaten global civilization, in order to protect it. It was one of his most arrogant arguments. This wasn't the first time that the prime minister has used this argument. In 2024, he spoke about "savage enemies." That's also how most Israelis view it. Barbarians or savages: Netanyahu, who is responsible for mass murder, has lost the right to talk about barbarity. When people today speak of barbarity in the world, Israel is in the Top 10.
What was going through Netanyahu's mind when he talked about barbarians? Does he really believe that the October 7 massacre justifies all of this? Do he and so many other Israelis still really believe the nonsense about "the most moral army in the world"? How can they? How can anti-Netanyahu protest leader Shikma Bresler, who is no follower of Bezalel Smotrich, but rather a symbol of the enlightened, beautiful and progressive Israel, still talk about "IDF values"? I would be happy to hear what she thinks those values are and what exactly Israeli civilization is, in the name of which we have been killing and destroying one half of the world in order to protect the other half.
